Rethinking the QCD collisional energy loss
نویسنده
چکیده
It is shown that to leading order the collisional energy loss of an energetic parton in the hot quark gluon plasma reads dE/dx ∼ α(m2D)T , where the scale of the coupling is determined by the (parametrically soft) Debye screening mass. Compared to previous expressions derived by Bjorken and other authors, dE/dx ∼ αT 2 ln(ET/m2D), the rectified result takes into account the running of the coupling, as dictated by quantum corrections beyond tree level. As one significant consequence, due to asymptotic freedom, the QCD collisional energy loss becomes independent of the jet energy in the limit E ≫ T . It is advocated that this resummation improved perturbative result might be useful to (re-)estimate the collisional energy loss for temperatures relevant in heavy ion phenomenology. Collisional Energy Loss in a Finite Size QCD Matter
Computation of collisional energy loss in finite size QCD medium has become crucial to obtain reliable predictions for jet quenching in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. We here compute this energy loss up to the zeroth order in opacity. Our approach consistently treats both soft and hard contributions to the collisional energy loss. Consequently, it removes the unphysical energy gain in...
متن کاملAngular Structure of Energy Losses of Hard Jet in Dense Qcd-matter
Angular structure of radiative and collisional energy losses of a hard parton jet propagating through dense QCD-matter is investigated. For small angular jet cone sizes, θ0 ∼ 50 − 100, the radiative energy loss is shown to dominate over the collisional energy loss due to final state elastic rescattering of the hard projectile on thermal particles in the medium. Due to coherent effects, the radi...
متن کاملImproving a radiative plus collisional energy loss model for application to RHIC and LHC
With the QGP opacity computed perturbatively and with the global entropy constraints imposed by the observed dN ch /dy ≈ 1000, radiative energy loss alone cannot account for the observed suppression of single non-photonic electrons. Collisional energy loss is comparable in magnitude to radiative loss for both light and heavy jets. Two aspects that significantly affect the collisional energy los...
متن کاملHeavy Quark Energy Loss through Soft Qcd Scattering in the Qgp
A strong suppression of non-photonic electrons in Au+Au collisions is observed at Rhic. This is in disagreement with the expected dominance of the energy loss via gluon radiation, which predicts a much weaker suppression of heavy flavours due to the dead cone effect. However, collisional energy loss is also important, as demonstrated recently by the Soft Colour Interaction Jet Quenching model. ...
